Bangkok Trip, Day 2

When we arrived at the airport, somebody approached us and said she was from the government's tourism department. Apparently they had special tours for first timers to Bangkok.

I was cautious as I read about tour scams, etc. But as I listened on, the tour they recommended sounded a good deal. So I booked a private tour for Wat Po (Reclining Buddha), Wat Trimit (Golden Buddha), Wat Benchamabophit (Marble Temple) and a city tour for 500Baht while praying it wasn't a scam or anything..hehe

So on our second day, we were fetched at the hotel lobby, ground floor (The hotel has two lobby. The one on the 23rd floor was for check in) by a tour guide and a driver in a private car. It was really a private tour! The tour guide was fluent in English and she was really friendly and chatty.
The original plan was to visit three temples but one of the temples (forgot which one) was under renovation. So we changed our itinerary according to her suggestions. We had a city tour first. And after that we visited Wat Po (pictures below).

After Wat Po, we went on to another temple. It's called the Wat Indrawiharn (Standing Buddha). Inside is the 32-meter tall standing Buddha. It's just a small temple but it's beautifully decorated with pink sema stones (second photo below). Although it looks black from the photo, probably not yet time to be cleaned again.

It was almost noon when we finished the two temples. Our tour was up to 12nn only. But the guide asked us if we wanted to go to a well-known jewelry store. I didn't want to but then I thought why not? They can't force me to buy if I didn't want to.

So off we go to Royal Lapidary. We were shown a 5-minute video of how the company came about and the precious stones found in Bangkok. After that we were brought to their showroom.

Hubby encouraged me to look. And I did! Hahaha. Hubby wanted to buy something for himself but he didn't find anything he liked. In the end it was me who bought a jade pendant. EJ picked it for me :)

It was past 1PM when we went back to the hotel and had lunch at their Japanese Buffet. Yum! I had totally forgotten about my "diet". Hahaha!

After lunch we went back to our room and had another long nap. We woke up at 6pm. And then went to Siam Paragon Mall, one of their trendy malls.

As I have mentioned in my previous post, this is just a walking distance from our hotel and is connected by a walkway bridge.

According to our guide that morning, Siam Paragon has a better food court than Central Mall. And she was right. It was huge with a lot of food selection.

We passed by a Royce's chocolate stall and I couldn't help but buy one box. It's supposed to be THE BEST chocolate at a higher tag price of course.

And I was not disappointed. It was super yummy! Totally worth their price. My diet is put on hold again..hahaha!

After going around the food court we chose Thai food. And I was blown away. The food was just too good to be true!!! Photos below are shrimp cake and phad thai. We also ordered a deep fried chicken wings but I couldn't find it in our folder. Absolutely yummy food!!!

After dinner, it was time for shopping. Just like in KL, everything was on sale. And we found out that Lacoste had a 50-70% off. Hubby bought 5 shirts :) I only bought one.

Of course EJ had his share of shopping too at the toy store. Before going home, we burned some calories by playing this game (I don't know what it is called).

EJ was so happy he beat his mom. Next post will be the trip to Grand Palace.
