Happy Monday

Hello Monday! Please be gentle and stay awhile. I have so many things to finish today and I want you to help me. Please don't rush, okay?

How are you guys? Hope you had a good weekend.

I had a perfect weekend. We just stayed at home, watched TV, surfed the internet for special deals like cheap auto insurance quotes and then went outside to eat pizza. I also had time to finish this very pretty (hahahaha, it's mine so I can say that) necklace.

I have been making a lot of necklaces in time for the display this week. I want to display at least twenty necklaces. And as of now, I only have about fifteen. I hope creativity strikes again today so I can finish one or two necklaces.

And oh, tomorrow is International Day at EJ's school. It's also a sort of year-end event because school term ends on Friday. We're asked to bring party food or finger food to the event. And I don't have any idea what to bring this time. Maybe I will just bring a pizza. The kids are going to sing and entertain the parents. It's also a chance to see their artworks and to talk to the teacher. I am excited.

So, yeah, have a great start of the week everyone!

One of my Favorite Place

I was sipping my Singapore sling and I thought, I am going to miss this place when we leave Cambodia.

No, we're not leaving anytime soon.

Hubby and I were having dinner at the Oyster bar of Himawari Hotel last night. It's like our default restaurant. Whenever we can't think of a place to eat out, we go to either Himawari or Raffles Hotel. Lately though, it's mostly Himawari Hotel.

We always sit outside of the restaurant, by the riverside because the view is good and it's kind of romantic that way. Last night, since it was drizzling, we were inside the restaurant. But somehow it still felt romantic. Maybe because of the rain.

As usual, we had fresh oyster and salmon sushimi as starter. As starters! LOL! Next thing we know, we'd be looking at weight loss products sooner than soonest if we continue to eat this way.

The restaurant was quiet. There was only one customer by the bar. And there's only us eating.

That's what I love about this place. It's not crowded. You don't have to shout to talk to your companion. And most importantly, you don't have to compete for the waiter's attention. And the food is served fast. Really fast! Even the refill of my Singapore sling was fast.

So yeah, I am going to miss this place.

Where's your favorite restaurant?

Grateful Friday #4

Thank God it's Friday! It's been a great week and I have so many things to be thankful for.

~ The weather is still hot but since it's rained a couple of times or more this week, it is not that hot anymore. Thank God for the rain.

~ A business deal has been made and we've signed a contract this week. Hopefully, when my display cabinet is ready, I will be able to display my necklaces in the store next week. Ahh, that reminds, do I need a scanning software? I need to ask the store owner.

By the way, here's a new necklace I just made today.

It's a wire wrapped swarovski gold wing pendant strung on a 14K gold filled delicate chain.

~ There's more online work and sporadic small income generating opportunities for me. Thank you!

In general, I am just thankful for every blessings small and big that come my way. I feel blessed. I am blessed.

Happy weekend!

Coz I Believe

Or more appropriately, I beLEEve. Yes, Lee DeWyze won! He's the American Idol season 9 winner!

How cute is he? I don't think he'd need any hair loss for men with that gorgeous hair he has now. LOL!

Seriously, I was glad Star World aired the show live. I thought I'd have to watch it later than everybody else.

So, thank you Star World for showing it live.

Did you see Janet Jackson perform? Wow! I love her.

I also got teary eyed when the past winners of AI went up the stage to sing a song for Simon. Awww! Simon will surely be missed in the next seasons.

So, are you happy that Lee won?

It's a beautiful day.....

Thank You For Today

I received a nice email yesterday. Usually a chain email or mass email or whatever you call it email gets deleted by me right away. But this one was one of those nice emails that I think everybody should read once in a while. We all know this but a reminder once in a while doesn't hurt.

So read on and smile. Because smile is one of the best alternative to the best wrinkle cream available. Hehehe!

Make up your mind to be happy. Learn to find simple things.

Make the best of your circumstances. No one has everything and everyone has something of sorrow intermingles with gladness of life. The trick is to make laughter outweigh the tears.

Don't take yourself too seriously. Don't think that somehow you should be protected from misfortune that befalls other people.

You can't please everybody. Don't let criticism worry you.

Don't let your neighbors set your standards. Be yourself.

Do the things you enjoy doing but stay out of debt.

Never borrow trouble. Imaginary things are harder to bear than real ones.

Since hate poisons the soul, do not cherish jealousy. Avoid people who make you unhappy.

Have many interests. If you can't travel, read about new places.

Don't hold postmortems. Don't spend your time brooding over sorrows or mistakes. Don't be one who never gets over things.

Do what you can for those less fortunate than yourself.

Keep busy at something. A busy person never has time to be unhappy.

And lastly, don't forget to be always thankful. And thank God for today.

Midweek List

I guess we all need time to vent off our frustrations. Here's something I need to get off my chest.

I was busy all day yesterday. I was finishing a jewelry piece, I did some banking stuff, I had a meeting with a business partner, etc, etc.

How helpful would it have been if my kasambahay took the initiative to help feed EJ, bathe him, play with him and sit with him while watching Diego? Because on top of all the things I was doing, I was also busy attending to EJ. I tell you, I almost lost my mind.

Yeah, I know. I could have just told her to help me with EJ. But sometimes out of frustrations I couldn't speak up my mind. Sigh.

Now, moving along.

It's a pretty day today and I am free today to meet with my friends and have coffee and a possible lunch. I am going to enjoy today because tomorrow and Friday are going to be busy.

1) I need to renew my passport. It's expiring next year but I only have one page left. I will be applying for the new maroon passport. It looks cool. Machine readable and all.

2) Look into an auto insurance quotes.

3) Meet carpenter for final design of the jewelry display.

4) Make more jewelries.

5) Book ticket and hotel for my solo trip to Manila on August. Yay!

6) Dentist appointment on Friday.

I hope you're having a great week. Cheers!

EJ, Take Two

After a humurous night with EJ about fruits, I quizzed him again the following night. This time, it was about animals.

Mommy: EJ, can you name ten animals?

EJ: Hmm, cat, dog, tiger, chinchilla, lion, uhmmmmm

Mommy: Whatelse?

EJ: Zoo!

He's only 3 years old, mind you.

I have been meaning to blog but I have been sick again. When it rains it pours, eh?

I had hives or urticaria since last Wednesday night. I thought it was nothing until my whole body was covered in patches of red. It wasn't the patches of red that's annoying. It was the itchiness.

I didn't sleep well since then but hopefully tonight I will.

I had been to three doctors. The first one thought it was mild so I was only given an anti-histamine. It didn't do anything. In fact it got worst. So on Thursday I went to another doctor again. This time I was given another antihistamine with a mild steroid and a calamine lotion. Nothing happened.

This morning, I was getting worried already. I read from the internet that chronic urticaria can last up to 6 weeks! What?!

So I went to another doctor today. This time I was given an injection, a topical corticosteroids (H-cort), increased the dosage of the steroid a little and another anti-histamine.

I feel better now. Some patches of red are still visible. I find myself scratching from time to time but it's tolerable and not annoying anymore.

We just stayed home today after a trip to the doctor. I wasn't in the mood to eat out.

Hopefully I will be totally okay and we will be able to have a nice Sunday out tomorrow.

Hope you're having a better week than mine. Happy Sunday!

Sugar Palm Fruit

On our way back to Phnom Penh from Kep, we passed by stalls after stalls of these things being sold at the highway.

Hubby thought these were big eggplants! LOL!

We asked our driver what it is. He said it's the Cambodian sugar palm fruit, the one he gave us last Khmer New Year. Ahhhhh! The one that looks and tastes like a kaong.

We stopped the car and bought about $5.00 worth of these.

We then cooked it by cutting it into pieces, adding white sugar and a little water. It's sort of like making a jam. After cooking we put it in the ref to make it cold.

Then we add in fresh milk. And voila, we have a dessert or a snack. If this doesn't appeal to you, how about this?

Here's a closer look.

Are you game to eat this? LOL! It was also for sale at the highway.

EJ's Sense of Humor

Last night, I was quizzing EJ about fruits.

Mommy: Can you name at least ten fruits?

EJ: Banana, Watermelon, Apple......

Mommy: That's only three fruits, baby. Can you name more?

EJ: Hmmmmm.....many bananas?

Hubby and I couldn't tell if he was serious or he was joking. Right after he said "many bananas" he laughed hard. Was it his joke? I mean, can a three year old have that sense of humor already?
Whether he was joking or not, he was still cute!

Kep, a Seafood Destination

Kep is a southwestern town of Cambodia. It is a perfect place for relaxation because it is quiet and peaceful. The beach though is not really ideal for swimming. It is mostly mangrove area and black rocks rather than white beach. But that doesn't stop some people from swimming.

But what really sold me to Kep is that it is not just for relaxation it is also a place to indulge in seafood. Kep is particularly famous for its crabs.

So for three days we ate nothing but seafood with yummy and fresh tropical fruits as desserts.

Seafood platter at the hotel is $15

At the crab market, small serving of squid for $5

At the crab market, grilled fish for $2.50

At the crab market, one kilo of steamed crab is $10

At the crab market, small serving of shrimps for $5

You might get tired of eating seafoods three days in a row but we did not. Seriously!

But I think I won't be craving for crabs anytime soon. I've had my quota for about six months. I've had that many. LOL!

Images from Knai Bang Chatt Resort

I have mentioned in my previous post that we just came back from possibly the most relaxing holiday ever.

We went to Kep, three to four hours drive from Phnom Penh. We stayed at Knai Bang Chatt Resort. I have no regrets even if we paid about five times more than the average hotel rate in the area. Here's why:

I love this salt water pool. It does feel like one of those walk in bathtubs because we had it all to ourselves every morning. Hahaha!

It was a fantastic holiday. Even our three year old son agrees.

Next post will be about the food we had during our stay in Kep, yummy seafood!!!

Back from Kep

Hi. I just got back from our short trip to Kep. It was one of the laziest, quietest, relaxed vacation I've had in a long while.

I am glad I chose Knai Bang Chatt resort. We really had a great time there. I will post more pictures tomorrow. For now, here's a picture of me, looking so relaxed...

..but definitely needing more time at the gym. LOL!

Seriously, I am thinking of buying some refurbished fitness equipment. The question is, will it be worth it? Knowing myself, I'd probably get tired after one week. Hahaha!

I got to go and unpack first. More to come later.

Happy weekend guys!

Grown-up Stuff

I am so glad it's already Wednesday. I have been sick since Sunday right after our mommy day celebration. It didn't help that this week has been pretty hectic for me. I had to deal with a lot of grown up stuff - amortization, insurances, rentals, business, etc, etc.

I really wished I were a child again. be grown up is to be responsible.

Honestly, I feel drained. The trip to the beach tomorrow is a much needed trip. We're going to Kep. A beachside town of Cambodia about 3 hours from Phnom Penh. It's a short road trip but a road trip nevertheless. And of course, I am going to stuff myself with a lot of seafood. LOL! I heard I could eat crabs for only $5 a plate! Wow!

We're going to stay at Knai Bang Chatt. A pricey resort but I hope to enjoy and take full advantage of all their amenities. We'll be there until Saturday afternoon.

I may or may not be able to blog during our short getaway. Until then, be nice everyone! =)

Mommy's Day

For every celebration we always go to Cafe Monivong of Raffles Hotel Le Royal. So for Mother's day it was a no brainer that we'd be celebrating it there.

We went there at 11:20AM because their adverts said it was a brunch and they'd be open at 11:00AM. But when we went there they said they'll open at 12NN. I don't know what happened between their marketing and food and beverage department but I was in a happy mood to be pissed off with a little annoyance. So hubby, EJ, and I just went down to their garden and had some mommy day photo. LOL!

Flower for you, Mom! sweet baby!

At 11:35AM, there were quite a number of people already lining up to go inside Cafe Monivong. I guess they also read the same adverts I read. At 11:40, they let people in.

Amusing exchange between EJ and the restaurant manager:

The resto manager led us to our table. EJ saw the high chair. He asked the manager "Is that a baby chair?" "Yes, it's for you" said the manager. "But I am not a baby anymore. I am a big boy" said EJ. "Oh, I am sorry" replied the manager. "I want this chair" said EJ pointing to a regular chair. "But that's for your mom" said the manager. "But I want that. I am a big boy now" insisted EJ. "Okay, so you like this chair? Let me call my colleague to get one for you" answered the amused manager.

Free flow of Singapore Sling. I love it. I got tipsy with two glasses only. LOL!

I went home with a free gift from Raffles.

I got a 50% discount voucher from their spa, loofah, soap, lotion and a gel. Yay! I am gonna use the voucher soon.

Again, Happy Mother's Day to all the moms!
