Food Trip Friday 06

This is a quick post for Food Trip Friday as I am running a lot of errands on this beautiful Friday morning.

When we were in Manila last August, we had dinner at Cafe Juanita. A consistently award winning restaurant. They serve Filipino food. And I can't forget their Bagnet.

I love this! I wish I could do this at home. And which reminds me, I have to find a recipe online. Now, I must run and read acsonix review, then off to do the long list of errands.

Happy Food Trip Friday and have a lovely weekend everyone!

Another Diet

This week seems to go by so quickly. And I am not being productive at all. I promised to finish one necklace this week but I haven't even touched my tools and beads. I don't know, I am lazy this week. Or maybe I am uninspired.

You see, the store which took my jewelries for consignment hasn't paid me for over two months now. I guess that's the reason why I am not inspired to make more jewelries. But I have so many designs in my head. I just can't find the heart to make one..for now.

~~~
During one of our conversation:
EJ: Mommy, can you play golf with me?
Me: Okay baby, give me five minutes. I am busy.
EJ: But why?
Me: I need to finish my work (blogging) so we have money to buy things.
EJ: But daddy is already working!!! You shouldn't work too.
Me: Mommy needs to work also...
EJ: No! Mommy should only stay with me and play with me all day because daddy goes to work already.
Kawawang Mommy. Hehehe.
~~~

This afternoon I am going to be productive. I need to read more on South Beach Diet and motor home repairs. I am actually on the fourth day of the SBD and I have lost a couple of kilos. It's all diet alone and no exercise. As I have mentioned in my other blog, I plan to exercise again after I finish the first phase of the diet. I just want to gauge how much weight I will lose by doing the diet alone. So far, so good. I hope to lose much as much weight as I can.

Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends!!!

Colors in our Living Room

Our living room used to be just green from the sofa set we got from the landlord. I couldn't be bothered to buy a new one as it is expensive and who knows when we might move again, right?

So I wanted a bit of color in our living, but I couldn't afford big paintings. I was also looking for some abstract paints here but couldn't find any.

So we decided to just paint our own.

It doesn't look that bad, right? Hahaha!!!

Hubby's painting. I actually love it.

EJ's painting. It's a car on fire with a tree on the background and a triangle shape. I love this too.

And this is my painting. Hahahaha!!! That's all I could come up with. If I change my frame to that of hubby's and EJ's I think, my painting would have some character. What do you think? Hahaha. This is displayed at the back of the TV.

I think paintings or even a splatter of color on the canvas (which you can try to pass on as paintings, LOL!) give life to the room. Agree?

Still on the Stampede..

We are going out in a little while to go have some rack card printing and buy more christmas ornaments, but I wonder if the shops are open?

With the tragedy last night, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the shops are closed today. And it is still officially a holiday too.

I have read there are still a lot of people looking for their relatives. We hope they find them soon. To those who have lost their loved ones, we offer our deepest sympathy.

It's really really tragic. I couldn't help but read more about what happened.

My family and I, we have been to Koh Pic or Diamond Island - the place where the tragic incident happened, several times already. I have been there with my friends too.

But now, I don't think I could still go there.

Stampede at Cambodian Water Festival

I woke up pretty early today. I wanted to savor the last day of the 4-day holiday here.

I turned on my laptop and this greeted me on the yahoo news: At least 345 die in stampede at Cambodian Festival. Oh, what a sad day.

Around 7pm last night, I heard the sound of the fireworks not far away from our house. And I thought, the Cambodians are really going all out with the celebration.

And then this happened....

What a sad and tragic end for the festival.

Let's offer prayers to the family of the victims.

Water Festival in EJ's School

Cambodians are celebrating Water Festival right now. We were supposed to go witness the event this morning but we were too lazy to go outside and brave the heat and the crowd.

The Cambodian water festival is a celebration and offering of thanks to the rivers for giving them abundant fish and water. During the festival, people from the provinces flock to the city to watch the boat race and join the festivities.

We might have missed this event but we got to see another boat race happening in EJ's school.

EJ's school also celebrated the festival by having games wherein kids get to play and have some fun.

The "boat race".

Waiting for their turn to play another game.

Play "catch". The ballon is filled with water. You have to catch it to avoid getting wet.

Filling the bottle with water game.

With his friend..

Having lots of fun now.

I am glad the school had this activity. The kids really had a great time. It was a fun way to introduce the Cambodian festival to the kids.

It's Here

We've finally put up our tree. For some it's early but for us, we usually put up our tree around this time of the year.

Last year, we had a silver and purple theme. This year we've decided to go with gold theme. I know I said, we will recycle this year but we could recycle next year.

The tree still needs some more ornaments. We'll buy some tomorrow.

We've also decorated our stairs. The ornaments are in red, just like the rest of the decors at home.

I am excited about the holidays. I am excited about the magic this season brings.

Anticipating

We're supposed to go out tonight for our weekly date but I am not sure it's going to happen.

The Water Festival starts tomorrow but I am predicting the traffic will be horrible starting rush hour this afternoon. I hope I am wrong but I don't want to take a risk. I don't want to be stranded in the road with an empty stomach. That's a recipe bound for disaster.

They say that during Water Festival, almost all of Phnom Penh will be crowded and closed. People from the provinces will flock to the riverside to witness the event. Hubby and I are planning to watch it.

Last year we were in the Philippines. Since this year, we are home bound only, we'd like to at least witness this event. But we're not going to bring EJ. I heard it's going to be a maze of people along riverside. You'd probably need a Garmin GPS to navigate your way around. So yeah, it'll be just hubby and I on Sunday I guess.

Tomorrow, we'll be attending a birthday party of my friend's son. I hope the road will be passable.

Enjoy your weekend guys.

Food Trip Friday 05

Last Friday, we braved the Phnom Penh traffic to go to Himawari Hotel's Oyter Bar Restaurant and have Buffet dinner there.

We love going here because we could have an endless supply of yummy salmon and hubby and I get to eat al fresco by the river side. Good food and beautiful surrounding.

The seafood table

Crabs with lots of pepper

Grilled fish, grilled pork, grilled chicken, grilled prawns

And my ever favorite salmon. I had it all to my self. Hubby usually eats oyster but that night he ate the grilled seafood mostly.

Slow Monday

And it's my turn to get sick.

Hubby and EJ are fine now. I thought I will not get sick this time. I was silently patting my back for having an improved immune system. Usually I get sick right away whenever one of them gets sick. Or usually it's always me who gets sick first in the household. This time, I really thought the virus would skip me. Wrong!

So yeah, I have my usual remedy beside me now. A lime and honey combination. I like it because not only it is effective, it makes me full all throughout the day. That means less food to consume. Hahaha!!!

~~~
It's hubby's birthday today. But we had a mini party already yesterday. Just a few people from his office. I prepared grilled pork ribs, calamari, tempura, salad, burrito and mango with sticky rice. I am glad they liked it. Well at least that's what they said.
A local grocery store here, who has hubby's birthday record for their rewards card called to inform that hubby has a cake from them. Sweet, isn't it? We'll pick it up later. I am in the mood to eat cake today. It's a good thing.
~~~

There's another long holiday coming up. But I am still not up to any travelling. We'll probably just stay home and play Wii all day long and eat all day long. LOL!

~~~
Have a great week, guys!
Steak Night
This post reminded how terrible the traffic has gotten here in PP. Last Friday night, as usual, hubby and I went out. Hubby wanted to eat at Himawari Hotel's buffet. On our way there, we got stuck in traffic. We were in the roundabout at Independence Monument. I was surprised because we were hardly moving.
We were getting hungry so we decided to just turn around. Okay, we did not literally turned around. Our driver found ways to maneuver and we found ourselves cruising back into a slow moving traffic at BKK area. Since we were hungry already, we decided to just eat at the first resto we saw. And it was Steve's Steakhouse in Street 51.
We've been planning to eat here but somehow we always choose something else.
Here's what we ordered:
Pita
Tzatziki, to go with the Pita bread. Tzaziki, according to the menu is a Greek yoghurt with olive oil, vinegar, cucumber and lots o garlic.
My plate: Local Pork Ribs with baked potato and mixed salad
Hubby's plate: Grilled steak with baked potato and mized veggies.
I must say, I love the food. My pork ribs was soft and really tasty. The baked potato had enough sour cream. Yum! And the salad had fresh veggies.
Hubby said we must get some leucine and stock it in our cupboard for nights like this. LOL!
I love the food but I am not a fan of the ambience. They do have AC room but the open air was more like a bar setting. At least for me.
The plus point though is that we got to watch a tennis match on a projector. And it was Anna Ivanovic. Hubby loves her. LOL!
Our Saturday
Early morning today I was stressed already. What a way to start Saturday, right?
Well, EJ has been toilet trained for almost a year now. He's done so well in the past until recently. I don't know what's going on but lately he's been doing the deed in his briefs and shorts.
We haven't been short of reminding him but it seems it's not registering in his mind.
This morning, I was in our room and hubby was taking a shower. EJ was in the living room, playing. When hubby checks in, EJ said he wants to poopoo.
What hubby didn't know was that EJ had done it already in his briefs.
I don't know what to say anymore. I was really pissed off with him this morning. So I just repeated this over and over again to him: EJ, weewee in the toilet, poopoo in the toilet, okay?
The rest of the day went on smoothly though.
We had lunch outside. And went to the pharmacy to buy some weight loss vitamin for me (I wish, haha). But I do have allergy, and hubby and EJ both have coughs. Then we went to the groceries and the local market. Hubby is celebrating his birthday with his officemates at home tomorrow. I am a little anxious. I hope they'll like the food we're serving them. And the wine, I hope the Pinot Noir is smooth and mellow. I haven't tasted it yet.
After hubby's birthday, we'll definitely put up our Christmas tree. I am so looking forward to it. I think I will recycle our decors from last year. There's no need to spend more.
Have you put up your tree yet? I have been playing Christmas songs in my laptop already. I can feel Christmas.
Food Trip Friday 04
I am posting something homemade this week. It's called patcham. LOL! Kidding aside, it's my version of a shawarma or tortilla wrap or whatever you call it.
I have been craving for something like this but I don't know where I can find it here. So the next best thing is to make one.
I am glad I found the tortilla wrap. The rest of the ingredients are easy. I just put whatever I wanted.
I found this in Pencil grocery store.
Cheese, Mango, Beef with powdered chili, Tomato and Onion, Mayo
Just dump the ingredients in the wrap. LOL!
And voila, a perfect snack. Or lunch, in our case.
EJ's plate. His, is the not spicy version but with lots of cheese.
This is my plate. Hubby's plate has double of what I have. LOL!
I am glad both hubby and EJ love it. I guess I will be making this again in the future. I will try to put some other ingredients and see how it goes =)
~~~

This post took too long to be published. I couldn't upload the photos yesterday. My internet was really sooo slow.

But the weird thing was that, I had no problem checking sites like buy.com and FB. So guess what I did the whole day yesterday? LOL!

Happy weekend guys!

Shoes as Gifts

My PELUKA friends and I had a tutorial/food trip session today. As usual it was a day full of fun and laughter. Thanks Che for hosting the merriment in your lovely home! And thanks Lui for teaching us about WP and for answering our questions about blog hosting, etc. I had a great day today! I love our weekly meetings/coffee meet ups. I always look forward to it =)

Anyway, the topic of Christmas and decorations came up. It reminded me that I still need to do my Christmas shopping. Honestly, I haven't started yet. There's not much on the list really but I want to do it early as much as I can.

So this afternoon, when I came home after the meeting, I immediately opened my laptop and searched, shoes for the baby.

EJ is not a baby anymore. I know. But he is my baby and will always be. Mothers. Hahaha!!!

Here's what I like.

A white sneakers. I love this. EJ has a brown Superga sneakers from his Tito Jeff. But one can never have enough sneakers, right?

This one is perfect for EJ. He loves to run and bike around our place.

I love this color of wellies. I am sure EJ would love this as well. He likes to step on a puddle and he loves playing in the rain.

Ahhhh, I wish I could find these shoes here in Phnom Penh so I won't have to order online. Ordering online is fun but the customs taxes and duties here is a different story.

For fun, here are some girls shoes as well. If I have a girl, I'd want these on her. Very very cute shoes!!!

Pink flat shoes. Love!

Lots of heart. I like!

Pink heart wellies. Super cute!

Oh by the way, here's an informative video on "How to fit buckle up school shoes for girls"

Have you done your Christmas shopping yet?

Pack your Baskets

I know it's not the time for picnics or beach trips now because Phnom Penh's weather has been more like bed weather than beach weather, but I was in the mood to look for Picnic basket sets and Insulated picnic backpacks this morning. Don't ask me why, because I also don't know. Hahaha!!!

Seriously though, my interests are varied. One minute, I could be making necklaces or earrings and cooking like crazy the next. Last Tuesday, I was busy playing Wii in the morning and making an abstract painting in the afternoon.

Don't get me wrong, I always finish what I started. I just like doing so many things. I think I am at my happiest when I am busy. I am not good with everything I do but I always have fun. I think that's the most important thing.

Anyway, back to picnic baskets. Lookie what I found!

Catalina Driftwood - I love this one. I imagine bringing this to the seaside, with some mangoes and grapes inside. Plus wine of course.

Bahamas Small Insulated Tote - This bag I can easily bring anywhere, even to the office. If I were still working that is.

Lunch Cooler - And speaking of office, hubby can definitely bring this to his office. He's been having packed lunch lately and I am sure he won't mind bringing this one to work.

Picnic Backpack for four - Or three, in our case. I love how organised everything can be. And with napkins too.

As mentioned above, we're not beach bound anytime soon but the pictures above inspired me to get ready for the holidays.

I think I know how to set our table this Christmas Eve =)

Rainbow and Tom

EJ came home yesterday with a rainbow on his face...

..and Tom the Tiger

EJ doesn't like face painting. So I was surprised to see his face with a rainbow. And I was more surprised with his reaction. He seemed pleased with the face painting.

Tom the Tiger was from their school. Each student in their class get to take home and take care of Tom for an overnight stay. EJ was excited. He showed Tom the flowers in our garden, he asked Ate what to cook for Tom - fried chicken and rice! Hahaha!!! He let Tom watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and the fun part, he slept with Tom beside him. In the morning, they get to report what they did with Tom.

I thought that was a nice assignment.

November 4, 2010

This Week

I am done with Puto Cheese. Hehehe. And I've moved on to other things...or actually I've just changed focus this week.

I am still not done gardening. This is a new addition to our flowers. I don't know what it's called. It's really pretty.

I've arranged EJ's mess of toys and put it in open cabinets. This way, he can easily see the toys. It's still not done yet. We still have some more toys in boxes.

I am also trying to find a good curtain. It's not easy. Unlike in Manila, I just have to go to Megamall and everything I need is there. Here in PP, I have to go to several stores to get what I need. It's fun though.

How's your week so far?

Food Trip Friday 03

This is my third food trip friday post. Yay! Unfortunately, it will be another Italian fare. We just love pizza and pasta!

This time we ate at Luna D'Autunno. Hubby has been here with his officemates and he likes the place and the food. So he brought us there last Monday (it was a holiday).

Our table

Goofing around before the order arrives

EJ, enjoying his bread

The freebie

Spaghetti Carbonara

Mushroom and Ham pizza

Tiramisu

The service was prompt and the food was great. I love the carbonara and the pizza. And we love the free bread! Hahaha! The servings were generous. We actually brought home more than half of the pizza.
